The New Mexico District Attorney General announced that Mr. Baldwin will be prosecuted for manslaughter.

Mr. Baldwin discharged a firearm on the set of a shooting in October 2021. This resulted in the death of the cinematographer, Halina Hutchins, and the injury of the director, Joel Souza. In a statement on the morning of January 19, the New Mexico district attorney general announced that Baldwin and Hannah Gutierrez Reed, who was in charge of weapons control, will be charged with manslaughter for Hutchins’ death.

The two counts relate to manslaughter, and the judges will decide not only whether the two are guilty, but also which of the two counts they are guilty under the legal definition.

If found guilty in either case, they could face a maximum of one year and six months in prison and a fine of $5,000. The district attorney general clarified.

However, if one of the legal definitions is applied, the sentence could be five years with an additional mandatory penalty for the use of a firearm.

According to the district attorney general, no charges are expected to be filed for Joel Souza’s injuries.

CNN has reached out to Baldwin and Gutierrez-Reed for comment.
