Rust” was a western movie starring Alec Baldwin, Travis Fimmel of “Vikings” and Jensen Acres of “Supernatural.

On October 21, 2021 local time, Alec was practicing handling a revolver on the set of Bonanza Creek Ranch in Bonanza City, New Mexico, when a single gunshot went off, wounding director Joel Souza and killing cinematographer Halina Hutchins.

Filming was halted, and about four months later, Halina’s family sued Alec. Production is reportedly expected to resume in January 2023. The production is reportedly expected to resume in January 2023.

In the meantime, according to the Wall Street Journal, prosecutors plan to charge Alec Baldwin with involuntary manslaughter in connection with the “Rust” shooting. Hannah Gutierrez Reed, the film’s weapons officer, is also expected to be charged with manslaughter. David Halls, the film’s first assistant director and safety coordinator on the set, has admitted negligent use of a weapon.

Alec’s attorney said, “This ruling distorts the tragic death of Halina Hutchins and represents a terrible miscarriage of justice. Mr. Baldwin had no reason to believe that there were live bullets in the gun or anywhere else on the movie set. He trusted the experts he worked with to assure him that there were no live bullets in the gun. We will fight these charges and win,” he said in a statement.

Halina’s family, meanwhile, said, “We want to thank the Santa Fe Sheriff and District Attorney for completing a thorough investigation and determining that the charge of involuntary manslaughter is justified for the murder of Halina Hutchins with disregard for human life. Our own investigation also confirms that the charges are justified. It is a comfort to the bereaved family that no one is above the law in New Mexico. We support the charges and will cooperate fully with this prosecution. And we sincerely hope that our judicial system will work to protect the public and hold lawbreakers accountable,” the statement said.
