Manchester U won the first leg 3-0 on January 25.

After a scoreless 0-0 first half, Manchester U made three changes up front in the 62nd minute. Antony, Wout Weghorst, and Alejandro Garnacho were replaced by Marcus Rashford, Antony Martial, and Jadon Sancho.

The substitutions proved to be on target, as in the 73rd minute, Martial dribbled in on the counter and made a last-gasp pass to Rashford, whose shot was deflected in by the opposing DF. Rashford’s shot was blocked by the opposing defense, but Martial was able to get on the end of the spill and swipe home with his left foot to put the visitors ahead for the first time in the match.

In the 76th minute, Bruno Fernandez’s outside cross was turned in by Rashford from the opposite side, and Fledge, who was free inside, pushed it in with his body for the extra goal. The match ended as it did, and Manchester U reached its first EFL Cup final in six years, since the 2016-17 season, when Manchester U won the competition with a total of 5-0 in the two games.

The final will be played on February 26 between Manchester U and Newcastle.
