Popular singers Sam Smith and Kim Petras performed their hit song “Unholy” at the 65th Grammy Awards.
The 65th Grammy Awards, the world’s most prestigious music event, was held on February 5 (Sun.) in Los Angeles, California, the United States.
Artists from around the world gathered in one place.
On this day, Sam Smith and Kim Petras won the award for Best Pop Performance (Duo/Group) for their collaboration song “Unholy. For Kim, this was her first nomination and first win. She is also the first transgender woman to win this award.
In her speech, Kim moved the audience by expressing her gratitude to her transgender predecessors who paved the way for her, to Madonna for fighting for LGBTQ rights, and to her mother for raising her.

Presenting Sam and Kim’s live performance at the event, Madonna said, “I am here to thank you, the rebels, for forging a new path. We know and see your fearlessness. And we are grateful. Here are two incredibly talented people, Sam Smith and Kim Petras, who overcame and fought through many critics and gave birth to a beautiful song called ‘Unholy,'” she introduced the two.

After being introduced by Madonna, Sam and Kim came on stage to perform “Unholy. The stage was dyed bright red, and Sam wore a hat with horns to represent the devil. She also sang the song while dancing with dancers who looked like Jesus.
Kim also appeared in a sexy red leather mini-dress. She was locked in a cage and surrounded by flames as she danced and sang with overwhelming vocal power.

Sam reflected on “Unholy feat. Kim Petras,” saying, “It’s too dangerous (Sam’s never-before-seen visuals and lyrics), so people might abandon me! he recalls, but this song is an expression of Sam’s courageous spirit, which can only be expressed because of Sam’s pursuit of self-love.
The song opens with a fiery chorus, and the lyrics are abusive toward those who disrespect their partners and children. Sam now describes the process of writing the song. The first time we did a session of this song in the studio, it was me, Kim, and nine other men in the room, and when the spotlight fell on Kim, the energy in the room was noticeably unbalanced. I had to stop the session, shut everyone up and say, ‘We need to let Kim do Kim,’ so that we could get Kim to her true potential. Then Kim freestyled the entire verse.” Regarding her latest album, “Gloria,” which includes “Unholy feat. Kim Petras,” Sam said, “There’s a big female influence on ‘Gloria. In the studio, we made sure there was a balance between the genders. That’s wonderful. In my career, my co-writers and producers have been heavily male-dominated.
Unholy feat. Kim Petras” spent three weeks at No. 1 on the U.S. Singles Chart and four weeks at No. 1 on the U.K. Singles Chart, and was streamed more than 1 billion times worldwide in total before the album was released.
