Trugoy the Dove of “De La Soul” Dies at 54

Trugoy the Dove, real name David Jolicoeur, a member of the hip-hop group De La Soul, has died at age 54. U.S. media reported on February 12.

AllHipHop, a music media outlet, reported the news.

Later, a publicist confirmed the death to The New York Times and The Washington Post. The cause of death was not reported.

 

Turgoy had announced in recent years that he was suffering from congestive heart failure and stated that his health problems prevented him from performing and touring as De La Soul.

 

The pioneering hip-hop group De La Soul was formed in 1988 in Amityville, Long Island, New York.

 

The music industry has expressed its condolences following the news of his death.

 

American singer Pharrell Williams posted on Twitter, “Sending love, light, and positive vibes to his family, the members of De La Soul, and all those affected by his presence.
