Selena Gomez revealed that there were certain words she was forbidden to say when she was on the Disney Channel drama Wizards of Waverly Place.
Selena Gomez Reflects on Her Disney Days
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Selena Gomez, a multi-talented singer, actor, and producer, reflected on her time on the Disney Channel drama “Wizards of Waverly Place. Wizards of Waverly Place” was a popular drama that aired in the U.S. from October 2007 to January 2012, and Selena got her breakthrough playing the main character, Alex.
When “Wizards of Waverly Place” began airing, Selena was 15 years old. She had been an honor student since then and was not the type to make gaffes, but she was forbidden to say “What the hell?” which is often used to express surprise, anger, or confusion because the Disney Channel viewers are mostly teenagers or younger.
She said, “I was never the bad-behaved type, but I was on a Disney show, so I had to avoid saying ‘What the hell?’ in public.” That was something I had to impose on myself in order to be the best role model I could be. But now I think that the best role model is one who is also honest about the ugly and complicated parts of herself.
In addition, Selena, who previously said in another interview that her time spent in Wizards of Waverly Place was “one of the most amazing times,” said that sometimes painful memories of the past come back to her, and “I definitely feel like I’m free from them. But sometimes I get triggered. I am not ashamed of my past. I have worked so hard to find my way and I just don’t want to go back to my old self. I want to be who I am,” she also said.
