The Juno Awards music awards ceremony was held in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, on Monday (13 March local time).

Singer Avril Lavigne received the ‘TikTok Fan Choice Award’.

During Avril’s acceptance speech, a woman who is against the planned development of part of the Greenbelt broke onto the stage naked on top of her body in protest.

The woman had the message ‘Save the Greenbelt’ painted on her body, and although the audience was temporarily disturbed, Avril’s response was extremely calm.

Avril initially ignored the speech, but when the woman’s behaviour escalated, she shouted at her over the microphone, “Fuck off, get out of my sight, bitch”. Shortly afterwards, the woman was dragged off stage by security staff.

It is not clear whether the woman was subsequently arrested or otherwise punished.

Avril then continued her speech as if nothing had happened and said: ‘This time, nobody do anything. Or else Canadian blood will come out of me and I’ll beat the bastard to a pulp”, he joked angrily.

Green belts are areas where urban development is restricted and nature is protected. Last November, plans were announced in Ontario, Canada, to allow 7,400 acres (30 square kilometres) of land protected as greenbelt to be developed for residential use, which was strongly opposed by opposition parties and environmental groups.

The Avril video has attracted a lot of attention online. In the comments, some people seem to support the women’s protests.
