Jeanne du Barry is a French film, directed by and starring Maïwenn, who is known for her work on the 2011 film Polisse. The film is scheduled to be screened as the opening film at the ‘Cannes International Film Festival’ on 16 May this year, and will be roadshowed in France on the same day. Screening in Japan has not yet been decided.
According to the official website, the film is “a historical drama about Jeanne Vaubernier, a young working-class woman greedy for culture and pleasure, who uses her intelligence and charm to raise her social status and win the favour of Louis XV”.
Maïwenn plays the protagonist Jeanne Vavernier, while her partner Louis XV is played by Johnny. The film also stars Banjaman Lavernay, Melville Poupaud, Pierre Richard, Pascal Gregory and India Eyre.
Johnny’s successes since his full return are not limited to this.
He will also direct Modi, a film based on the play Modigliani. The film will depict the life of the Italian painter and sculptor Amedeo Modigliani.
Speaking about the film, Johnny once said: ‘It is both an honour and a trepidation to be making a film about Mr Modigliani’s story. Mr Modigliani’s life is one of facing great hardship but ultimately triumphing. It is a universal human story that everyone who sees it can relate to”.
