According to People magazine, Ed, who was holding a pop store in New York, US, suddenly performed a song as soon as he appeared outside the shop.

A video on Twitter shows Ed, dressed in black trousers, blue and orange Nike shoes and a black coat, asking the crowd, “Can I sing a song before I go?” to the crowd and sings his latest single ‘Boat’ on the roof of his car, guitar in hand.

Speaking of Ed, the chord progression and rhythm of his 2014 song ‘Thinking Out Loud’ was sued for copyright infringement by the administrator of the estate of singer Ed Townsend, who co-wrote the song, for its similarity to singer Marvin Gaye’s song ‘Let’s Get It On’ (1973). The lawsuit was brought by the administrators of the estate of singer Ed Townsend, who co-wrote the song.

At the trial, Ed indicated that he may retire from music if he loses the case. This caused anxiety and concern among fans, but on 4 May (local time) a federal jury in New York ruled that Ed was not liable.

The day after winning the controversial court case, Ed gave an impromptu performance in front of a large crowd of fans. Perhaps relieved at winning the lawsuit, Ed seemed to be in a very good mood during the performance.

After the aforementioned verdict, Ed told the assembled press: ‘I am very happy with the outcome of the court case. It looks like I won’t have to retire from my day job (music)”. However, he also revealed how threatening this type of litigation is to musicians, saying: ‘I cannot allow any of these baseless allegations [by the plaintiffs] to go to court and I am incredibly annoyed.

‘In order for the creative process to continue, claims like this one have to stop. So we can all go back to making music. At the same time, we absolutely need real, trusted experts who support the process of protecting copyright. Thank you.”

After winning the plagiarism trial, Ed will continue with his music career. On his new album, he sings about his precious daughter, but what songs will he release next? Expectations are high.
