Singer The Weeknd has caused a stir after confessing that he would like to change his artist name one day.

In an interview with W Magazine, The Weeknd spoke about his future musical endeavours.

There, he revealed that he would like to stop using his stage name ‘The Weeknd’, which he has used for over a decade, and use his real name, ABEL, as his artist name.

‘I’m getting ready to close the chapter on The Weeknd,’ The Weeknd cut in, ‘I’ll still be making music, maybe as ABEL, maybe as The Weeknd. But I want to kill The Weeknd. I’m going to do that one day. I definitely want to get out of The Weeknd’s skin and reclaim it,” he made the surprising admission.

The Weeknd has previously said that he is meticulously planning his future music projects. He said his next album would be a trilogy, including 2020’s ‘After Hours’ and last year’s ‘Dawn FM’. He said, “The album I’m working on now will probably be my last journey as The Weeknd. This is something we have to do. I’ve said everything I can say as The Weeknd.” Apparently, he has no regrets about leaving The Weeknd.

The Weeknd has hinted at changing his artist name in the past.

In April 2022, after releasing the music video ‘Out of Time’, The Weeknd interacted with fans on Twitter. At the time, he wrote: “You guys are funny. I feel like I should change my artist name to ABEL at this point”, he tweeted.
