A fan who threw a smartphone at popular singer Bebe Rexha has been arrested.
The accident occurred on June 18 (local time).
Bebe, who was performing at a concert in New York on that day, was hit by a smartphone that flew from the audience and injured her face. Bebe collapsed on stage in pain and left the stage shortly thereafter and was rushed to the hospital. According to Just Jared, Bebe received three stitches in the accident.
Police later arrested and charged the person who threw the phone at Bebe with assault, and Forbes magazine reported that the perpetrator is a New Jersey, NJ resident named Nicholas Malvagna, 27.
The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office also reported that Nicholas admitted to throwing the phone at Beebe and stated that he thought it would be fun to hit her with the phone at the end of the show, as to the motive for the crime.
Meanwhile, the injured Bebe posted two selfies on Instagram on June 19 with the caption, “I’m good. The photo shows a large bruise on her left eye and a deep cut under her eyebrow, indicating how strong the impact of the accident was. The post also received concern and support from singers Demi Lovato and Lauren Jauregui, actor John Stamos, and fans from around the world.
