Director Spielberg’s Thoughts on the Latest “Indiana Jones” Film

Steven Spielberg, who directed a total of four films in the “Indiana Jones” film series, from the memorable first film in the series, “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” to “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,” which was released in 2008. Steven Spielberg revealed at the Time 100 Summit his first impressions of “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” which he handed over to director James Mangold.

Originally, “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” was to be directed by Spielberg, but he made the decision to step down as director and work on the film as executive producer, handing the megaphone to Mangold.

For Spielberg, “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” is the first film he did not direct. What did he think when he first saw it?

Spielberg said, “Bob Iger (Disney CEO) had a preview of the film with a bunch of Disney executives. I saw it with director James Mangold. Everyone loved it. It was a really, really great ‘Indiana Jones’ movie. I’m really proud of what Jim [Mangold] has done with the film,” he continued.

When the lights came on (after the screening), I turned to everyone and said, ‘Oh my God! When the lights came on, I turned to them and said, ‘Oh my God, you know how to make this film! I thought I was the only one who knew how to make this film.

Incidentally, Harrison Ford, who plays Indiana Jones, has stated that “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” will be his last film as Indy.
