Madonna, 64, reportedly “ignored” signs of illness in order to continue rehearsing for her highly anticipated Celebration Tour.
Madonna is currently recovering from a shocking bacterial infection that sent her to the ICU late last month.
She was found unconscious in her apartment on Saturday, June 24.
Despite her poor health, a source said of Madonna’s attitude toward her work: “She has been ignoring her illness for quite a while.
‘She ignored the symptoms of her illness for quite a while. But she didn’t want to take time away from rehearsals,” a music insider explained to People. ‘She had a tour coming up, and she wasn’t feeling 100% for a while, so she was limping. She was relentless in being the best, wowing her fans, and doing things that no one before her had done,” continued the source.
Another source added, “Madonna has been very busy for a long time and has not taken care of herself. She keeps pushing herself beyond her limits,” and reiterated that Madonna was overworking herself.

Those close to Madonna also noticed the physical strain she was enduring and worried that she might suffer the same fate as Michael Jackson, who died in 2009 while preparing for his “This Is It” tour. A source told The Sun, “Madonna was in good spirits [before she was rushed to the hospital], but she had a grueling schedule ahead of her, and some friends advised her to take it easy and rest.”
Her manager has so far refused to say when Madonna’s health will improve and she will be able to begin her world tour, promising fans, “We will let you know as soon as we have more details, including new start dates and rescheduled performances for the tour.
