From “Twitter” to “X”…Transitional Confusion is Trending

The familiar blue bird has been disappearing from the Twitter brand since the company announced its rebranding on July 22, 2023, with the web browser version changing to “X” on July 24, the Android version on July 28, and the iOS version on July 29.

On Twitter, “#MyTwitter” has been trending and people are reporting the survival of the blue bird.

Bring back the blue bird! iPhone shortcut apps are the focus of attention.

In the midst of all this, there is a growing movement among users who love Twitter too much to force the “X” icon back to the old version. The way to do this is to “utilize the iPhone shortcut application.

The iPhone shortcut app is a genuine Apple app and has been implemented since iOS 13. It allows users to create shortcuts that immediately launch frequently used functions, or to specify the time of day for weather and news displays.

The following is how to change the X icon using this app.

  1. download the image of the blue bird, the old Twitter icon, in advance
  2. launch the shortcut application and tap “+” in the upper right corner
  3. Tap “+Add Action” at the top of the screen
  4. Tap “Scripting” from the category
  5. Tap “Open App
  6. tap the highlighted App and select “X” from the list of Apps
  7. tap the down arrow at the top and select “Add to Home Screen
  8. change the old style icon and name from “Home screen name and icon
  9. tap “Add” in the upper right corner

Then, what a surprise! The “blue bird” icon and the word “Twitter” are on the iPhone home screen! It is still a relief, partly because we are used to seeing it. This is just a shortcut key, so the X app itself will remain as it is. The only thing that will be changed is the icon and the name of the app, which will naturally be “X” when accessed with the shortcut key.

The series of incidents have once again revealed users’ attachment to the “Blue Bird. Perhaps they will become accustomed to “X” over time, but I hope that the blue bird will remain in any form.
