Dennis Quaid talks about his dark past.

Dennis appeared on the cover story of People magazine. He said, “I remember going home and having an experience that was like a white light. I saw myself dying, or in jail, or losing everything. It was something I didn’t want,” Dennis recalled.

It is not the first time he has spoken about his dark past; in 2018 he revealed that in the 1980s, when his own career was on the rise, he used up to two grams of cocaine a day. ‘I loved cocaine,’ he said. I used it when I went out,” he told the Sunday Times.

Dennis decided to go to rehab in 1990 and overcame his substance abuse problem. After coming out of rehab, he turned to his faith and began to build a “people-to-people relationship” within himself “to fill the hole that I could make when I ended my drug addiction,” he said. He commented, “Prior to that, even though I was raised a Christian, I didn’t have relationships with people.” Dennis began reading the Bible, the Qur’an, and other religious literature, and in 1990 he said he found a new spirituality and composed a faith-based song, “On My Way to Heaven.”

The song was also a song to his mother, Wanita Jordan, “to tell her that I was okay . Because I wasn’t okay before that,” he said.

Reflecting on his past predicament, he said, “I’m grateful to still be here. I’m really grateful to be alive every day.” “It’s important to enjoy life’s journey as much as possible. There are so many challenges and difficulties out there,” he continued.
