In an interview with Variety, Noah Schnapp, who plays Will in the hit Netflix drama “Stranger Things,” said that it was “thanks to Will” that he came out as gay.

Noah came out as a gay man in January through a video he posted on TikTok, saying, “After 18 years of being scared in the closet, when I finally told my family and friends that I was gay, their response was, ‘I knew. Noah captioned the video, “I’m a gay man. Noah wrote in the caption of this video, “I guess I’m more like Will than I thought,” but it was revealed after the delivery of Season 4 that Will is gay.

Noah said, “I didn’t want to wait around, freaking out about what people were going to say. I just wanted to get it over with. I wanted to have confidence in who I am and know that I don’t have to worry about what people think anymore. When I arrived at my destination and opened my cell phone, I received many congratulatory messages with hearts and rainbow flag emojis. I cried as I looked at them. “I finally did it. This is the end. I don’t have anything to worry about anymore,” he continued.

Once I fully accepted that Will was gay, I found myself accepting it exponentially faster. If it hadn’t been for Will, if he hadn’t helped me accept who I am, I would be in a very different place today. If I hadn’t had to play that character, I probably still wouldn’t have come out.”

Noah was initially hesitant about confronting his sexuality and sharing it with the world, but his perspective changed when Will publicly acknowledged his homosexuality, saying, “[When Will found out he was gay], the press went crazy and everyone was like, ‘Will is gay! Hooray! It was like, ‘Hooray, Will is gay! I saw all the comments on Instagram and TikTok. There was nothing wrong with him (Will) being gay. And I thought, ‘If he gets so much support, I don’t have to worry about anything, do I?’ I thought, ‘If he’s so supportive, I don’t have to worry about anything,'” he stated.
