Moonbin, a member of K-pop group ASTRO and its sub-unit MOONBIN & SANHA, has died; he was 25 years old.

According to a report by South Korean news website Yonhap News, Moonbin was found dead at his home in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, at around 8:10pm local time on Wednesday, 19 April.

Page Six and other news outlets report that the death is “believed to be a suicide”, but the official cause of death is not known.

Moonbin’s entertainment agency, Fantazio, issued a statement on Twitter on Wednesday confirming Moonbin’s death. ‘First, we apologise for the sad and heartbreaking news that on 19 April, Astro member Moonbin suddenly left us and became a star in the sky’, and went on to say that Moonbin’s family, the band members and all those who worked with Moonbin ‘deeply mourn the deceased with great sorrow and shock. We deeply mourn the deceased with great sadness and shock”.

It also wrote: “We hope that the family members, who are deeply saddened by the sudden sad news, will refrain from speculation and malicious reports so that they can respectfully remember and greet the deceased”.

Moonbin also has a younger sister, Moonsua, who is active in the idol group Billlie. Following the sad news, Billlie have announced that they will cancel their schedule for this week.

There has also been a lot of sadness on the internet, with posts such as ‘You changed my life’, ‘Thank you for everything’, ‘He always had a big smile on his face and could make people smile right away, but now that happiness is gone and he has made everyone sad and lost his smile’. The posters also wrote: “He always had a big smile on his face.

In addition, a string of suicides in the K-pop world has become a problem: “As an old KPoper, I hate K-pop already. The bad days of the past are being repeated again”.
