The band announced the passing of John, who joined the band in 1970, on Instagram.

‘Deeply saddened by the news of John Gosling’s passing. Our condolences go out to John’s wife and family.”

Each member of the band then posted a separate message. Lead singer Ray Davis wrote, “Condolences to his wife Teresa and family. Dear John, rest in peace.”

Lead guitarist Dave Davis wrote, “I am terribly upset by the passing of John Gosling. He was a friend and an important contributor to the Kinks’ music during his time with us. My deepest sympathies go out to his wife and family. I will continue to hold his deep love for him in my heart. He was a great musician and a wonderful man,” he wrote.

Another former drummer of the band, Mick Avory, had words on Instagram. ‘Today we lost a dear friend and colleague. A great musician and had the best sense of humor a popular member of the band could have. He left us with wonderful memories. God bless him.”

John left The Kinks in 1977 and formed Cast Off Kinks with Mick, Jim Rodford, John Dalton, and Dave Clark in 1994, where he remained until his retirement in 2008.
