The total prize money is 18.5 million dollars, about 2.6 billion Japanese yen.

The AI Cyber Challenge, announced by the Department of Defense, is open to individuals as well as companies and organizations, and aims to compete in technological innovations using AI and techniques to protect against cyber attacks.

Companies such as Google and Open AI will collaborate on the contest, and participants will have access to the technology of each company.

The field will be narrowed down to a maximum of 20 teams in a preliminary round in May 2024, and the top five teams in the semi-finals will each win $2 million in prize money.

In addition, the winner of the 2025 finals will double that amount to $4 million, approximately 560 million Japanese yen.

The Department of Defense has stated that the technology developed through the contest will be made available to the general public.
