TMZ reports that the family has begun preparing to say goodbye to Steve Harwell, former vocalist of Smash Mouth, as he approaches his final days. The site also reported that Steve, who had been receiving treatment in the hospital, is now receiving end-of-life care (hospice care) at home.

Steve’s manager told the site that Steve has suffered from alcoholism throughout his life and that his liver has reached a serious stage of failing. According to his manager, Steve has only about a week to live.

Steve announced his retirement two years ago after an incident in which he slurred his words and yelled at an audience member during a live performance. At the time, Steve was battling cardiomyopathy, heart failure, and Wernicke’s encephalopathy, as well as drug addiction, which reportedly contributed to his deteriorating health.
