Olivia Newton-John, an Australian singer and actress who gained worldwide popularity for her role in the popular musical film “Grease,” passed away on August 8 at the age of 73. Her family announced her death this morning.
She passed away this morning surrounded by her family and friends.
Newton-John, who was active in the entertainment industry for more than 50 years, devoted herself to philanthropic activities after being diagnosed with breast cancer in 1992.
Born in England and raised in Australia, she gained a following in the 1970s for her country-oriented songs and won a Grammy for “Confessions of Love” in 1974. As an actor, he also achieved success, appearing in the 1978 school musical film “Grease. His disco tune “Physical” was No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard for 10 weeks in a row from 1981 to 1982.
She has had a close relationship with Japan, first visiting the country as a solo artist in 1976, and touring there more than 10 times, including 2010 and 2003.
In a post on her official social media account, her husband, John Easterling, explained that Newton John “passed away this morning surrounded by family and friends” at their farm in California.
