His son Justin Wright announced to TMZ that Gary passed away on September 4 at his home in Palos Verdes Estates, California

TMZ also reported that Gary was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease six years ago and shortly thereafter with Lewy body dementia.

Justin explained that his father had “lost the ability to move around and talk,” and that the family had recently been briefed by nurses that the end was near and he “breathed his last surrounded by loved ones.” Gary is survived by his wife Rose, whom he married in 1985, and daughter Dorian.

The music community has already sent messages of condolence in response to this sad news. Stephen Bishop, singer of “Save It For A Rainy Day,” wrote to X that he feels “great sadness” at Gary’s passing. Gary’s vibrant personality and exceptional talent made every moment we spent together a true pleasure. His legacy will live on for many years to come. I will always cherish the warmth and kindness that Gary and his wife Rose gave me and the stories of days gone by that he shared with me. My deepest condolences go out to his family, friends, and fans during this difficult time.”

Throughout his 40-year career, Gary released a total of 12 studio albums, the last of which was the pop-rock album “Connected” in 2010.

A close friend of the late George Harrison of The Beatles, Gary played keyboards on George’s third solo album, All Things Must Past.
