Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Angels will become a free agent (FA) this offseason.
With about a month to go until the FA market opens, there are constant predictions regarding where Ohtani will be moved.
Zack Wassink of Yardbarker, a U.S. media outlet, named two teams as strong candidates for Ohtani’s destination.
The first is the Los Angeles Dodgers. In recent weeks, front-office sources have said that the Dodgers are the frontrunners to acquire Ohtani. In fact, the Dodgers are not moving forward with signing any of their players to guaranteed contracts for the 2024 season.
On the other hand, it is unlikely that New York Mets owner Steve Cohen would easily give up Ohtani to another team. Ohtani is unlikely to return to the two-way game until 2025 due to right elbow surgery, but he could win a $500 million (¥74.5 billion) contract this offseason.
Therefore, Wassink predicted a fierce battle between the two teams, saying, “It appears that Mr. Cohen will have to do more than match the amount the Dodgers are offering Ohtani to win the baseball unicorn.
