Liverpool’s front line consisted of Harvey Elliott, Cody Gakupo, and Fabio Carvalho. Thiago Alcantara and Naby Keita were also in the starting lineup. Wolves started Rubén Neves, Adama Traoré, and Raúl Jiménez.
Liverpool broke the deadlock in the 13th minute, when Elliott drew a pass from Thiago in the center of the pitch and dribbled into the Liverpool box. Liverpool continued to push forward, with Kostas Tsimikas and Gakupo both shooting into the box in the 15th and 31st minutes, respectively, but neither could find the target. 35 minutes later, F. Carvalho found the back of the net after a pass from N. Keita, but the goal was ruled offside. The Wolves were unable to add to their tally due to an offside decision. Wolves had another chance in the 78th minute. A. Traore dribbled into the right side of the box, turned deep into the middle, and R. Jimenez met it with his head in front of goal, but his shot went wide.
