The 2022 F1 pre-season test started, and on the first day, Max Verstappen of Red Bull Racing took the steering wheel of the new machine “RB18”. Verstappen recorded 147 laps, the highest number of laps by driver, and was able to collect a large amount of data as targeted without any trouble.
Red Bull unveiled the actual car of “RB18” on February 23, the first day of the Barcelona test.
A machine with a unique side pod design that uses pull rod front suspension / push rod rear suspension has attracted a lot of attention.
On this day, Verstappen was 9th with a time of 1’22.246 (C2 tires), but he ran 147 laps, the most among all drivers.
“I think the car feels good, but the most important thing is the speed, so I’m trying to confirm that,” Verstappen said.
“Today, I aimed to get used to the machine and make more laps to get a rough idea of how it behaves. I also needed to gain some distance to see how durable the parts were.”

Guillaume Lokerin, who is in charge of race engineering, is satisfied that he was able to lap more smoothly than expected.
