On March 16, Ferrari unveiled the first images of its next-generation GT3 vehicle, the 296 GT3, which will make its racing debut in 2023. The 488 GT3 currently used in GT races around the world will be replaced by the 296 GT3.

Development testing of the new GT3 car on the track will begin “within the next few months” in preparation for its race debut, which is set for 2023.

The new car, developed by Ferrari and assembled by Oreca, will be powered by a V6 engine. Ferrari emphasizes that the hybrid system in the road-going version of the base car, the 296 GTB, will not be installed in order to comply with GT3 technical regulations.

In terms of design, Ferrari says that further aerodynamic and distinctive elements have been added to maintain a link with the production car. These changes include a revised front end with a new splitter and a suspended wing at the rear.

The design of the production car is said to have been partially inspired by the 250 LM, which was successful in the Le Mans 24-hour race in the 1960s.

Last month, Antonello Colletta, Ferrari’s sports car racing director, said he planned to roll out the car at Ferrari’s Fiorano test track in late March or early April.
