Johnny Depp’s Lawyers Call Amber Heard’s Request “frivolous

Amber Heard, who lost her defamation lawsuit against Johnny Depp, is asking the court to set aside the verdict and remand the case, claiming that one of the jurors was replaced by a different person.

As many of you know, in the trial in which Johnny sued his ex-wife Amber for defamation, the jury found that an editorial Amber contributed to the Washington Post in 2018 was defamatory and ordered Amber to pay Johnny a total of $15 million in damages. Amber also won $2 million in damages in her counterclaim against Johnny.

In documents obtained by Yahoo Entertainment, Johnny’s lawyers dismissed Amber’s claims of a “mistrial” as “frivolous,” noting that Amber’s lawyers were aware of the jury changeover before the trial. Amber’s lawyers had been aware of the jury shuffling even before the trial. Even if juror #15, who was noted to have been replaced this time, is a different person than the one who received the summons, there is nothing to support Amber’s argument that “due process was not followed” because of that, he said, “Ms. Heard has not shown that she was prejudiced at all, and therefore, her speculative argument fails,” he said.

Johnny’s counsel added, “After a six-week jury trial, the jury panel, which was equal to Ms. Heard’s, returned a verdict against her in virtually every respect. Although she is understandably dissatisfied with the outcome of the trial, Ms. Heard has cited no legitimate basis for overturning the jury’s decision in any respect. Virginia law is also clear that a verdict will not be set aside unless it is ‘clearly wrong or there is no evidence to support it.'”
