Nominations have been announced for the 94th Annual Pu Emmy Awards, which will be held in September.
Emmy Nominees for 2022 Announced
Taking first and second place for the most nominations were two previous Emmy Award winners. The “Media Kings,” now in its third season, received 14 of its 25 nominations in acting, which, according to Variety, breaks the record for the most acting nominations a film has received in the same year (the previous holder was the mini-series “Roots,” with 13 (The previous holder was the miniseries “Roots” with 13 nominations). And the drama “Ted Russo: Coach Who Never Fails,” which swept all the comedy categories at last year’s Emmys, follows in the footsteps of “The Media Kings: A Family of Splendor. With 20 nominations this year, the same as last year, it did not break the record for the most nominations for a comedy held by “30 ROCK” with 22.
Popular dramas with young casts were also strong this year, with “Euphoria” and “Stranger Things” receiving 16 and 14 nominations, respectively.
New drama series are also crowded in 2022. The new drama series with the most nominations was the Murder in Building, a Murder Mystery Comedy starring Steve Martin, Martin Sheen, and Selena Gomez, a trio from different generations, with 17 nominations. It was followed by “The Squid Game (14),” “Severance (14),” “Yellow Jackets (7),” and “Abbott Elementary (7),” among others, which became the first non-English language film to be nominated in a major Emmy category.
In the miniseries category, “White Lotus,” a comedy with a subtle touch of racism and inequality, received the most nominations with 20. Meanwhile, with 14 nominations, “Dopesick: The Opioid Crisis Eroding America” achieved the feat of winning five of the eight Best Supporting Actress awards for a Miniseries.
The 74th Emmy Awards ceremony will be held on September 12, 2022 US time.
