On July 10, Novak Djokovic won the Grand Slam of tennis, Wimbledon. However, because he had not been vaccinated against the new strain of coronavirus, he was called an “anti-vaccine poster” by a reporter, to which his wife, Elena, responded with a furious response.
This Grand Slam will be Djokovic’s last appearance this year.
Novak Djokovic won the third Grand Slam tournament of the year, Wimbledon, for the seventh time. Immediately after his victory was confirmed, he celebrated with his wife Jelena and family.
The next Grand Slam tournament will be the U.S. Open (August 29-September 11) in the United States. Foreigners must be vaccinated against the new coronavirus to enter the U.S., but Djokovic has not been vaccinated.
Sports journalist Ben Rosenberg posted on Twitter regarding this, “Unless the US changes its entry rules soon, this Grand Slam will be Djokovic’s last appearance this year. He added, “You have to be vaccinated to enter the US, but Djokovic refuses to be vaccinated, cementing his status as an ‘anti-vaccine’ poster boy. The article was critical of the fact that Djokovic had not received the vaccine.
Djokovic’s wife, Jelena, saw this and angrily replied, “I’m sorry. I would like to remind you that it was you who labeled my husband an “anti-vaccine poster. My husband was simply responding to his own physical choices.
Excuse me. Just making sure that it is noted that YOU tagged him as antivax poster boy for whatever reason you have. He simply responded what HIS body choice is.

Rosenberg replied, “I understand that it is his choice, but I will also say that he has unwittingly become a major icon in the anti-vaccine movement. Jelena responded, “He talks and decides how he wants to talk,” “He is simply choosing what is best for his body. If he can’t play because of that choice, that’s okay with him,” she said, defending her husband.
The battle of words over vaccination did not end, with Rosenberg saying, “I may be judgmental. But I believe that all citizens, especially public figures, had an obligation to act responsibly during the pandemic by sending a message of public health and action. As someone who has followed Djokovic, an influential champion, he has repeatedly let me down,” she fired back.
Jelena responded, “Thank you for sharing what you believe. I hope others don’t judge you. I hope others don’t judge you or make you a poster child for hatred and bullying. You never know what can happen. You are an influential person too, so please don’t let me down repeatedly. Unless that’s your job,” he retorted powerfully.
Djokovic was in trouble this past January over his entry into Australia because he refused to be vaccinated against Corona. The Australian government revoked his visa and banned him from entering the country for three years, but the prime minister changed in May, and Serbian newspapers reported that there were signs that he might be able to enter Australia again in the future.
