Still a blockbuster hit, “Top Gun Maverick” starring Tom Cruise has become the highest-grossing film in Paramount Pictures’ history at the worldwide box office, according to a report from Deadline. Deadline reports.
It has broken Paramount’s all-time record.
After the film was released on the same day in Japan and the U.S. on May 27, 2022, it became the biggest hit in history for a film starring Tom Cruise. Now in its eighth weekend of release, the film has already grossed $605.96 million at the U.S. box office and $602.5 million overseas. Its total worldwide box office is now $1.284 billion, surpassing “Transformers: The Lost Age” (2014)’s $1.1 billion and breaking Paramount’s all-time record (as of July 14, 2022 local time).
Although the film is Paramount’s third highest-grossing international film of all time, it continues to set new all-time records for Paramount live-action films in 28 overseas markets, including the United Kingdom, France, and Australia. The most outstanding box-office results are $88.8 million in the U.K., followed by $65.4 million in Japan, $55.9 million in Australia, $46 million in France, and $41.4 million in South Korea. The key will be to see how far the record can be extended in the future.
As previously reported, the U.S. box office took the 12th place in the all-time box office ranking, surpassing “Titanic” (1997). It is about $14 million behind “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” (2017), which is in 10th place and could well make the top 10.
Top Gun Maverick has surpassed the $1o billion mark at the global box office in its first 31 days of release, making it only the second Corona Disaster release to do so, after Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021). The film has been a huge hit beyond imagination, and there are high expectations for a third film, but according to actor Miles Teller, “It’s up to Tom Cruise.
