The latest in the long-awaited worldwide series of sky action movies, “TOP GUN MAVERICK,” is expected to deliver powerful, realistic sky action scenes and a “heart-pounding” drama between the legendary Maverick and the young pilots. Top Gun Maverick” is currently screening as a blockbuster hit! The Hollywood blockbuster that Tom Cruise, the best of the best in Hollywood, has not given a project to anyone for 36 years is finally in theaters!

How far will  “Top Gun Maverick”　fly beyond “Mach 10.0” as Maverick flies in the movie?

Two months after its release, the film has been flying at a high pace, breaking all records since the Corona Disaster, and is on its way to becoming the No. 1 live-action film released in Japan after 2020. The cumulative total of the film up to July 31 (Sun.) was recorded as [attendance: 6,420,342 people, box-office revenue: 10,130,363,030 yen]! It has also surpassed the astonishing $1.3 billion mark worldwide.

This is the first time a live-action film has surpassed 10 billion yen in total box office since “Aladdin” released in 2019, and of course, the first time a Corona disaster has done so! Tom Cruise became the first “10 billion yen man” in 18 years, the second since “The Last Samurai” released in 2003! The Last Samurai” broke 10 billion yen on January 26, 2004.

Two months after its release, the “Top Gun phenomenon” continues to gain momentum, with the term “chasing Top Gun” being widely used in various media. In the U.S., the film has grossed over $650 million, surpassing the first “Avengers” film to become the ninth highest-grossing film of all time. It has also surpassed the $1.3 billion mark worldwide. In Japan, as the world entered the summer vacation period in late July, the film recorded 100% week-on-week growth on weekdays. The film’s unparalleled success is like Maverick’s flight in the movie, “Mach 10.0,” and we can’t wait to see how far it will go beyond this milestone!

The Grand Cinema Sunshine (Ikebukuro) 4DX SCREEN recently won the world’s No. 1 box-office record among 4DX SCREEN theaters (including 4DX and SCREENX theaters) worldwide. The battle for tickets for large formats (IMAX, Dolby Cinema, 4D, ScreenX, etc.) is still going on every night. Furthermore, the fact that the number of moviegoers during the summer vacation period has been maintained in spite of the fact that many major and powerful films have already been released, symbolizes that the reputation of the film continues to attract young and old alike, and that the younger generation, who did not know the film 36 years ago when it was first released, are all coming to the theaters. The new video shows the training of the actors of the new Top Gun team, which became popular along with Tom Cruise, in order to film in the “real sky”. Tom, who laughs, “I haven’t trained in 36 years,” led the team by devising his own flight training program to get everyone up in the real sky. The making of the film shows the underwater training using a special device that rotates so fast that the viewer loses track of heaven and earth, and the flight training in which the G-force increases step by step in order to reach the level of boarding an F-18 fighter plane, with many people fainting in agony. The film is now marking a page in the history of the film, with its box-office ranking rising to 9th in the U.S. as well as surpassing the 10 billion yen mark in Japan.
