Jennette McCurdy details her relationship with Ariana Grande during her time on Nickelodeon’s popular drama “Sam & Cat,” in which she appeared.
That I had to turn down a movie? No shit, that’s not right.
On August 9, Jennette McCurdy published her memoir, I’m Glad My Mom Died. In her book, Jennette confesses her relationship with her late toxic mother and how she was physically and emotionally exploited by Nickelodeon executives.
In the book, Jennette also speaks candidly about her relationship with singer and actress Ariana Grande, with whom she co-starred in “Sam & Cat.
While Ariana was allowed to take regular breaks from filming the drama to sing at awards, record new songs, and do press for her next album, I had to angrily defend my absence. During the filming of iCarly, I was asked to do two films, but I had to turn them down. The drama team wouldn’t take me out of the episodes.” Ariana was allowed to work outside of the drama shoot, but she confessed that she was not allowed to do so.
She added, “The week they said Ariana wouldn’t be in the episode at all, they wrote her character into a box to avoid her absence in the episode. I thought, “Are you kidding me?” and “I have to turn down a movie while Ariana is whistling at the Billboard Music Awards? That sucks,” she said, candidly revealing the stress she was under at the time.
Jennette says she began to resent being a good girl.
If I hadn’t been so nice in the first place, I wouldn’t be in this predicament. I wouldn’t be on this shitty show, on this shitty set, with this shitty hair style, saying these shitty lines.” “Maybe my life would be completely different now. I imagine things differently. But different. This is this. This is it. Ariana is taking a break from drama to do music and I am acting in a box. I resent that. And I’m angry at her. I’m jealous of her,” she said, revealing her jealousy of Ariana.
Outside of work, Jennette also struggled with the gap between her own family, where she has a toxic mother with cancer who cries because she can’t pay rent or utilities, and Ariana’s wealthy family in Florida who buys her brand bags, luxury trips, Chanel clothes, and anything else she wants whenever she wants.
‘I was in despair when Ariana came whistling over to me excitedly, telling me how much fun she had had playing at Tom Hanks’ house the night before. That was the moment I broke down,” she revealed about the moment when all her previous stress and jealousy exploded and she despaired.
From that moment on, Jennette revealed, “I didn’t like Ariana. I couldn’t like her,” she revealed.
