Australian actress Margot Robbie, 32, has revealed that she was not her first choice to play Barbie.
The Barbie doll is being adapted into a live-action film for the first time by Greta Gerwig, who was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Director and Best Screenplay for Lady Bird. The film features a stellar cast, including Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling.
Margot said that before the role was finally given to her, Barbie’s most likely candidate was actually Wonder Woman actress Gal Gadot (38). Margot, who is also a producer on the film, said she and director Greta Gerwig were looking for someone with ‘Barbie’s energy’ and thought Gal Gadot had it.

In a new interview with Vogue, Margot said that Gal Gadot has Barbie’s energy and that Gal Gadot is impossibly beautiful, but because of her beauty, she is impossible to dislike.
However, at the time, Gal was unable to commit to the role, so Margot took the lead role.
Margot said, “When I first read Barbie’s script, my reaction was, ‘Oh! This is good!’ ‘ and I was like, ‘Oh my God! I also thought it was a shame it would never see the light of day, because they would never let me make this film. But they did,” she says of the film.
