In the wake of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s raid on former U.S. President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago mansion in southern Florida, a court in the state released a search warrant on August 12, revealing that the reason for the search included suspicion of violating the “Espionage Act” by illegally retaining classified defense documents.

The documents included classified documents related to nuclear weapons.

According to the released warrant and related documents, the search resulted in the seizure of numerous documents labeled “top secret.” The list of seized items also included “information concerning the President of France.”

The DOJ had earlier asked the court to release the search warrant if Trump did not object. While he said he would not oppose the release, he condemned the “unprecedented political weaponization of law enforcement” by “radical leftist Democrats.” Trump’s side had been in possession of the search warrant and list of seized items for several days and could voluntarily release their contents.

The Washington Post reported on August 11 that an anonymous investigator said that the seized items in the raid included classified documents on nuclear weapons. However, Trump posted on social networking sites that the nuclear weapons issue is disinformation. He also suggested that the FBI may have “planted information” at the mansion.
