FBI releases the results of its investigation into the accidental shooting on the set of the film “Rust”.

A new forensic investigation conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) into a gun accident on the set of the film “Rust” has concluded that the gun in question “could not be made to fire without pulling the trigger. The cause of death was determined to be an “accidental death” from a gunshot wound to the chest.

As many of you may know, an accident occurred last October on the set of the film “Rust,” which was being shot in New Mexico, U.S., when cinematographer Alina Hutchins was killed by the accidental discharge of a prop gun. Director Joel Souza was also injured in the accident. Alec Baldwin, the lead actor who shot the gun without knowing it was loaded, was told by the assistant director who checked the gun beforehand that it was “safe,” and it is believed that the lack of checking by the assistant director and weapons officer who handed the gun to him was the cause of the accident. The subsequent investigation revealed that the gun that Alec shot was not a prop gun, but a “real gun” with live ammunition inside.

In his first interview on ABC’s “20/20” program after the accident, Alec said, “I didn’t pull the trigger. I did not pull the trigger,” and “I would never point a gun at someone and pull the trigger. Absolutely,” he testified.

According to the FBI report, the firearm used in the shooting was an F.lli Pietta single-shot revolver in .45 caliber Colt (.45 Long Colt), and with the hammer in the quarter-cock and half-cock positions, “I could not make it fire without pulling the trigger.”

Incidentally, a lawyer who also represents Alec commented to CNN that the FBI report was “misinterpreted. He said, “The gun [in question] fired only once in the test, when the hammer was pulled, without pulling the trigger. And the gun was broken in two places…The FBI’s prior tests showed that the gun was in poor condition and could not fire when the trigger was pulled.” “Importantly, the coroner’s report concluded, ‘This is a tragic accident. This is the third time that New Mexico authorities have found that Alec Baldwin had no authority or knowledge of the allegedly dangerous conditions at the shooting site, that he was told by the site safety officer that the gun was safe, and that he believed him.”
