Britney and Elton collaborate on “Hold Me Closer”
Britney Spears and Elton John met at the Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party in 2014. Then, in 2015, Britney tweeted on Twitter that she loved Elton’s 1971 classic “Tiny Dancer (Dedicated to Maxine),” sparking the idea of a collaboration between the two, and finally, this summer, a miracle happened.
Initially, it was said that they would cover “Tiny Dancer,” which Britney professed to love, but they collaborated on the song “Hold Me Closer,” which uses the song.
Elton John said of his collaboration with Britney, “I am so excited to have worked with Britney Spears. She is a true icon, one of the greatest pop stars of all time. She sang a great song. I love her with all my heart and am so happy that we were able to write a song together,” he said in a press release.
Britney, on the other hand, said, “I was so honored to be asked by that Sir Elton John to participate in his song, and his most iconic song. I’m really looking forward to having my fans listen to it. Thank you, Elton! I am so grateful to have worked with you and to have been touched by the spirit that makes you a legend,” he said.
Hold Me Closer, which is sure to bring smiles and surprises to Elton John and Britney Spears fans around the world, was produced by Andrew Watt and features a modern-day revival of Elton’s hit song “Tiny Dancer,” as well as a collection of songs including “The One,” “Don ‘t Go Breaking My Heart,” a song that adds elements of classic songs from his legendary catalog.
