Nicki Minaj’s acceptance speech at the “MTV Video Music Awards (VMA)” has been attracting a lot of attention.

In her speech, Nicki first thanked big-name rappers such as Lil Wayne and Jay-Z as “key figures” who have inspired her. She then revealed that artists such as Kanye West, Beyonce, and Rihanna have inspired her to seize great opportunities in her career.

Nicki opened with, “I wish Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson were still here,” adding, “I wish people understood what they meant and what they went through. I wish they would address mental health issues, even if they seem to have the perfect life. I wish Pop Smoke, Juice World, and Nipsey Hustle (all artists who lost their lives at a young age) were here,” she continued.

Nikki also expressed her condolences to those close to her, “To my dad, my cousin Richard, and my business manager Angela,” she said.

She concluded her speech with a message of gratitude to “Barb,” which refers to Nicky’s fans, and a mother’s shout-out to her soon-to-be 2-year-old son “Papa Bear” with her husband, Kenneth Petty.
