The CFO of Bed Bath and Beyond has died.

Gustavo Arnal’s fall was confirmed on the afternoon of Friday, September 2. He fell from the 18th floor of the high-rise building commonly known as the “Jenga Building” in Manhattan, New York. Although police authorities are still investigating the details, it is believed to be a low-profile case and most likely a suicide.

 

In response to the news of his death, Bed Bath and Beyond released a statement. While avoiding details, the company said, “Our deepest condolences go out to Gustavo’s family. Mr. Arnall worked for Procter & Gamble for 20 years and held executive positions at a number of companies, including Avon, before becoming CFO of Bed Bath & Beyond in 2020.

 

On Wednesday, August 31, Bed Bath & Beyond announced the closure of 150 stores and a 20% reduction in its workforce due to poor performance. The company’s stock price plummeted in response to this news.
