Queen Elizabeth II has passed away.

Her 70-year reign from 1952 was the second longest in history for a monarch, following the 72 years and 110 days of Louis XIV of France (reigned 1643-1715). A ceremony was held in June of this year to celebrate his 70th year on the throne, but recently there have been reports of health concerns.

She was born in London on April 21, 1926, the eldest daughter of the Duke of York (later King George VI). Her real name was Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor. Her sister is Princess Margaret; she married Captain Philip Mountbatten, Duke of Edinburgh, of Greek royal blood, in 1947. He acceded to the throne on February 6, 1952, at the age of 25, following the death of his father; he was coronated at Westminster Abbey on June 2, 1953. They had three sons and a daughter: Prince Charles, the eldest, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, the second, and Prince Edward, the third.

As “the face of Great Britain,” he made more than 260 trips to about 100 countries, including a visit to Japan in 1975 as a return trip for Emperor Showa’s visit to the U.K. in 1971. She also served as the head of the Commonwealth of Nations, a loose federation of former colonial powers.

She was respected by the people of Japan, and his residence, Buckingham Palace, and Windsor Castle were popular tourist attractions. On the other hand, when Princess Diana, Princess of Wales, divorced from Prince Charles, died in a car accident in 1997, she was criticized for not expressing condolences for several days, but since then she has made efforts to convey the “royal family close to the people” by visiting pubs.

In April 2020, immediately after the spread of the new coronavirus, she delivered a televised speech encouraging the public, saying, “If we remain united and strong-willed, we will overcome this disease. The speech was viewed by approximately 24 million people in the U.K. and showed the world that he has the presence to unite the people in times of crisis.

In April 2021, she lost her husband, Her Royal Highness Prince Philip, then 99 years old. In February of this year, she contracted corona.

The number of British prime ministers who have served the Queen is 15, from Churchill, who led the country to victory in World War II, to the current Prime Minister Truss.
