According to the report, Twitter management has ordered some staff to work 12-hour days, seven days a week (the equivalent of 84 hours in a week) in order to meet Elon Musk’s deadline.
Elon Musk’s $44 billion acquisition of Twitter closed last week, but even before that, concerns about layoffs had been swirling at the company. It is still unclear when and how many staff members will be laid off and which teams will be most affected.
Since last week, the company’s staff has been tasked with tasks, which some say is a test by Elon Musk’s team to see who will work hard.
Insider previously reported that an internal message was sent to staff working on changes to Twitter’s authentication process, saying, “What is expected of you is to literally work 24/7 to make this happen.”
CNBC also reported that staff members are concerned that if they do not complete their assignments by the early November deadline, their careers at Twitter could be over. Meanwhile, Twitter management has been asked to conduct performance reviews and send a list of which employees should be retained to Elon Musk’s team, sources told Insider. Some managers also told the New York Times that they slept in Twitter’s offices on Friday and Saturday nights.
The Washington Post reported that Elon Musk’s team plans to cut about a quarter of Twitter’s staff as the first round of layoffs, according to a person familiar with the discussions that took place at Twitter headquarters last week.
It remains to be seen what will happen to Twitter Inc. in the future.
