According to Aju Business Daily, Jin, who will turn 30 on December 4, will be assigned to a unit after five weeks of training at a boot camp; spokespersons for BTS’s agency HYBE and the South Korean Defense Ministry have yet to comment on the report.

In South Korea, able-bodied males between the ages of 18 and 28 must serve 18 to 21 months of military service. However, there are some categories that receive exemptions or serve for shorter periods, such as Olympic and Asian Games medal winners, classical musicians and dancers who have won top prizes in certain competitions, and others. Some lawmakers had called for BTS to be exempted.

South Korea’s defense minister has suggested that BTS may perform overseas while serving in the military.

In a statement released on Monday, October 17 this year, the agency said that Jin, the oldest member who will celebrate his 30th birthday this December, “will begin his enlistment process as soon as his solo release schedule at the end of October is finished,” and continued, “The other members will also perform their military service according to their own plans. The other members are also planning to serve in the military according to their own plans.

Big Hit Music plans to regroup and resume activities around 2025, when all members have completed their military service, but added, “Please understand that it is difficult to pinpoint an exact date.
