Jin, the oldest member of the global K-pop group BTS, will begin his compulsory military service on December 13, according to a report in the Korean newspaper Aju Business Daily and the NewYorkPost.
After five weeks of training, he will be assigned to a unit.

According to Aju Business Daily, Jin, who will turn 30 on December 4, will be assigned to a unit after five weeks of training at a boot camp; spokespersons for BTS’s agency HYBE and the South Korean Defense Ministry have yet to comment on the report.
In South Korea, able-bodied males between the ages of 18 and 28 must serve 18 to 21 months of military service. However, there are some categories that receive exemptions or serve for shorter periods, such as Olympic and Asian Games medal winners, classical musicians and dancers who have won top prizes in certain competitions, and others. Some lawmakers had called for BTS to be exempted.
South Korea’s defense minister has suggested that BTS may perform overseas while serving in the military.
