Croatia vs. Brazil

Croatia, the finalists in the previous tourn.ament who beat Japan in the round of 16 after a penalty shootout, and Brazil, the favorites to win the tournament, who advanced to the quarterfinals without a hitch with a big win over South Korea, clashed for the last four.

Brazil had the ball in their hands from the beginning, but Croatia controlled the game with their three midfielders, including Luka Modric, and the first half ended scoreless.

In the second half, however, Brazil stepped up their attack, with Vinicius Junior in the 48th minute and Lucas Paqueta in the 66th minute, but their defender Dominik Rybakovic made a series of good saves, and the game went into extra time without being decided in the 90th minute.

In the first half of extra time, the game finally broke the deadlock. Neymar played a one-two with Rodrigo and Paqueta to open up a tight space and calmly finished past the goalkeeper. But it was not over.

Croatia caught up in the second half of extra time with a goal by Bruno Petkovic to force a penalty shootout for the second match in a row. Four Croatian kickers were successful in the first, while Brazil’s Rodrigo (first) was saved by Livakovic, and Marquinhos (fourth) hit the post.

The game seemed to be decided.

However, the Dutch responded with a storm. Bout Beghorst’s Hetting strike from a right-wing cross made it a one-goal game, and in the last 10 minutes of added time, Beghorst again caught up with the Dutch, this time with a trick of a penalty kick to send the game into extra time.

Neither side was willing to give in, and when the penalty shootout began, Argentina’s defender was mesmerized.

Emiliano Martinez stopped the first Dutch shot by van Dijk and the second by Steffen Verheijs in quick succession. Argentina, meanwhile, made four of five shots on goal and beat the Netherlands in a penalty shootout to advance to the semifinals.
