Saudi Arabia’s first division club Al Nassr announced the signing of Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo on December 30 last year. The team, which has added one of the world’s star players to its roster, is also eyeing a move for Spanish midfielder Sergio Busquets of Spanish first division club FC Barcelona. ESPN, a U.S. sports network, reports.

Busquets is in talks with MLS club Inter Miami, but no agreement has been reached yet.

Busquets, who also played for Spain at the World Cup in Qatar but announced his retirement after the tournament, was a member of the winning team at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, and his contract with Barcelona expires at the end of this season.

With his future career in the spotlight, he has been reportedly headed to Inter Miami of Major League Soccer (MLS) in the United States. However, Al Nassr is expected to make an offer, preparing an annual salary of 13 million euros (about ¥1.84 billion).

Inter Miami and Busquets’ side are continuing negotiations, but have yet to reach an agreement. So Al Nassr, who is looking to add another big name to his team besides Ronaldo, is said to be talking to the Barca captain.

An “ESPN” source said, “Busquets was thinking of leaving Barça in January. But he has accepted to stay at the club until his contract expires in the summer,” and that the transfer will take place after the summer.

Barça has not made a new offer to Busquets. However, they have not ruled out the possibility of making an offer, as financial restrictions make it difficult to get a regular first-team replacement for Busquets. 34-year-old Busquets is at a turning point in his career, but where will he be playing next season?
