The incident has caused Carr to look at parting ways with the Las Vegas Raiders.

The Raiders have begun the process of evaluating the trade market for Carr, making a parting of ways even more likely, Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported on Thursday, January 12.

In a lengthy statement posted on Twitter, Carr, who said goodbye to the Raiders organization and fans while thanking them for their support, wrote that he will likely play for another team in the future.

In the statement, Carr continued, “I have said before that I would rather be at home if not with the Raiders, and I meant it, but I never imagined this ending,” he wrote. The fire inside me that wants to win the championship is still burning. No one can put out that flame except God.

So I’m looking forward to a new city and a new team that will take everything I have, whatever the environment. Winning a championship is something I’ve always wanted to do and will continue to strive for.”

During his career with the Raiders, Carr has been selected to the Pro Bowl three years in a row (2015-2017) and has made the playoffs twice. On the other hand, he has also suffered through six losing seasons and played under an interim head coach (HC) for two seasons. before the 2022 season began, the Raiders acquired wide receiver (WR) Davant Adams, a teammate of Carr’s at Fresno State, in a acquired in a trade. This was expected to put the Raiders in contention to win the AFC (American Football Conference) West Division. However, Carr showed signs of struggling to generate points at times. The Raiders were often unable to sustain their strong first half in the second two quarters, and too many games saw them lose the lead in ways that were unique to their playoff hopes.

With only a slim chance of reaching the postseason left, Josh McDaniels, in his first year as the Raiders’ head coach, has taken a drastic step. He dropped Carr to the bench in favor of Jarrett Stidham to start the final two weeks. Surprisingly, Stidham was impressive, but the results–ending the season with two straight losses–were all too familiar to the team.

Carr had signed a contract extension with the Raiders in the spring of 2022, so it was assumed that he would be working with HC McDaniels for the foreseeable future. Carr’s contract extension secured his position with the Raiders. On the other hand, the extension also left an avenue for Carr to leave the team if necessary. In other words, if the team decided to cut or trade Carr, the 2023 dead cap number was set to be just $5.6 million ($723.43 million).

And because the cap disadvantage is so small, the Raiders are actually going to do it. Carr should be a favorite in the offseason with teams looking to solve their quarterback problems, but his ability as a starter remains in question.

During his time with the Raiders, Carr has been a very productive quarterback in the right situations. Nevertheless, the Raiders now see Carr as a poor fit for their future. It will be interesting to see if a team in need of a quarterback decides that Carr is worth acquiring in the future.
