Manchester C won the top of Europe for the first time in the club’s history.

The “Champions of Europe” for this season will be decided. The finalists were Manchester C, aiming to win the CL championship for the first time in their club history, and Inter, hoping to have a “big year” for the first time in 13 seasons. Manchester C topped Group G and defeated Leipzig (Germany) 8-1 in the first round of the tournament (Round of 16) and Bayern (Germany) 4-1 in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, they faced Real Madrid (Spain), as they did last season, and achieved “revenge” with a 5-1 win in two games. In the seventh year of Josep Guardiola’s reign, Inter will be aiming for the top spot in Europe for the first time in the club’s history by advancing to the finals for the first time in two seasons.

Inter Milan finished second in Group C, behind Bayern (Germany), and will face Porto (Portugal) in the Round of 16. Inter beat Porto (Portugal) 1-0 in the round of 16 and Benfica (Portugal) 5-3 in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, they won the “Milan Derby” against Milan (Italy) 3-0, reaching the final for the first time in 13 seasons. The last time they won the CL was in the 2009-10 season. Led by Jose Mourinho, the team defeated Bayern 2-0 with two goals from Diego Milito. They will be aiming for their fourth championship in the club’s history, including the Champions Cup era of their predecessor competition.

Both Manchester C and Inter chose a solid starting lineup for this fateful match. For Manchester C, Ruben Diaz, Kevin De Bruyne, and Erling Harland are in the starting lineup. Inter Milan included Alessandro Bastoni, Nicolo Barella, and Lautaro Martinez.

The match kicked off at the Ataturk Olimpiyat Stadu in Istanbul, Turkey, and Manchester C had a chance in the first five minutes. In the 20th minute, Marcelo Brozovic and L. Martinez combined on a post play, and Brozovic fired a shot from the middle that went just over the crossbar.

In the 27th minute, Manchester C had their first chance of the day. Ilkay Gündoğan received a pass from Llodri and dropped it directly to De Bruyne, who sent a through ball. The ball was cleared off the line by Harland, who finished with his left foot, but goalkeeper Andre Onana was on hand to block his attempt. In the 29th minute, De Bruyne cut in on the left and tried a right-footed shot, but it was blocked by Hakan Chalhanor and went right in front of the goalkeeper.

Manchester C gradually increased their number of shots, but in the 29th minute, an incident occurred. De Bruyne returned to the pitch, but seven minutes later, in the 36th minute, he was ruled out of the game and replaced by Phil Foden. De Bruyne had left the pitch midway through the match due to an injury sustained in the final two seasons ago, and he had another frustrating experience in the finals. The first half ended scoreless.

In the second half, the game continued in the same vein, with the tension of a final match still high, and in the 59th minute, a Manchester C miscommunication gave L. Martinez the chance to shoot, but goalkeeper Ederson made a good decision to deny him the goal.

The game was broken in the 68th minute. Manuel Akanji carried the ball in from the back and sent a through ball into the near zone. The ball was blocked on the near side, but the ball spilled into the space inside the penalty area and Rhodri was able to get on the end of it. The ball spilled into the space inside the penalty area and Lodri met it with a well-aimed right-footed shot that found the net to put Manchester C ahead.

Inter went behind in the 71st minute when Federico Dimarco headed a shot from a corner that was deflected over the crossbar. In the 73rd minute, Lukaku finished off a pass from L. Martinez, but his right-footed shot, which was not his best, went just wide of goalkeeper Ederson. The goalkeeper Edelson was not so lucky.

Manchester C, looking for an equalizer, had a chance to tie the game in the 77th minute when Foden made a clever turn to head into the penalty area and had a one-on-one chance with the goalkeeper, but goalkeeper Onana was able to save it.

In the 88th minute, Inter had their best chance of the day. Robin Goossens headed home a cross from Brozovic, and Lukaku was on hand to meet it with a free header. The visitors looked to have equalized, but goalkeeper Ederson made a great save. The loose ball was also cleared, and a great opportunity was missed. Inter continued to attack until the very end, but even a corner kick on the last play failed to lead to a goal.

Time expired. In the 2022-23 season, Manchester C will be the first club in the history of Manchester City to win the Premier League and FA Cup trophies, thus achieving the “treble” that they have always wanted. Manchester C became only the second English club to win the treble since Manchester U did it in the 1998-99 season.
