Croatian midfielder Luka Modric wants to extend his contract with Real Madrid, according to a February 1 report in the Spanish newspaper As.
Modric, now 37, joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2012 after playing for Dinamo Zagreb and Tottenham in his home country.
He quickly established himself as a stalwart in the team and has reigned in the midfield of the “White Giants” for more than 10 seasons. He has helped the club win numerous titles, including three La Liga titles, five Champions League titles, and four FIFA Club World Cup titles. He also won the Ballon d’Or in 2018.
Even as a seasoned veteran, Modric is still an immense presence in the team. In his 11th year with the club, Modric has played 25 official matches since the start of the season, scoring five goals and providing three assists.
Modric’s current contract with Real Madrid expires at the end of June this year. With less than half a year remaining until the expiration of his contract, the departure of the “rare commanding presence,” who will turn 38 next September, is attracting a great deal of attention.
Since January 1 of this year, Modric has been free to negotiate with other clubs. According to this report, several clubs have already expressed interest in acquiring the player and have actually made contact with him.
