After losing 1-2 to Villarreal in the Round of 16 on January 7, Real Madrid failed to win the title in the Supercopa de España in Saudi Arabia.

Real Madrid will next face Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey quarterfinals in midweek before hosting third-place Real Sociedad with Kanehide Kubo on January 29. Athletic Bilbao will face Valencia in the Copa del Rey quarterfinals in midweek, followed by an away game against Celta in the next round of La Liga on January 29.
