James Cameron, the major film director behind the hit movies “Titanic” and the “Avatar” series, has named “The Last Train From Hiroshima” as a film he would love to work on.

The Last Train From Hiroshima, a documentary novel by Charles Pellegrino released in 2010, focuses on the life of Yamaguchi Tsutomu, a survivor of two atomic bombings in Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August 1945.

Director Cameron, who had met Yamaguchi Tsutomu, has a strong desire to adapt the novel into a film.

In an interview with The Los Angeles Times, Cameron emphasized the need for a film version of the novel in the current world situation, with the war in Ukraine and the resurgence of nationalism in the United States. We live in a world that is more unstable than we realize. The film set in Hiroshima is a reminder of what nuclear weapons can do to people when they are used.

Cameron further stated that all of his films are made for screening in movie theaters. At the Golden Globe Awards ceremony last month, Cameron said, “I’ve had enough of streaming services. I’m tired of sitting around,” he told the Independent.

Cameron’s “Titanic” is currently being re-released in movie theaters nationwide under the title “Titanic: James Cameron’s 25th Anniversary 3D Remaster,” and despite being over 20 years old, it has been such a huge hit that the seats have been packed.

In addition, the “Avatar” series will see the release of the third film in 2024, the fourth in 2026, and the fifth in 2028.

If Cameron were to make a film set in Hiroshima, it would surely be a big hit in Japan.
