An exchange between Katy Perry and a contestant on an audition show has caused controversy.
Sara Beth Liebe, a 25-year-old female contestant, competed on season 31 of the popular audition show American Idol, which aired on 5 March.

Sara Beth Riebe is the type of person who looks quite young, and combined with her outfit on the day, she looked and sounded like a high school student.
And as she introduced herself to judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan, Luke Bryan praised her appearance, saying “You look about 16”.
Sarah Beth exchanged “No, I’m 25” and “No, I’m 16” with the judges and then said, “You guys are my favourites. I have three children,” she confessed with a laugh.
This ‘mum of three at 25’ remark was met with “What? Katie stood up in shock and leaned against Luke.
When Sarah Beth said, “If you get down on the table, I’m going to faint”, Katie said, “Honey, you’ve been lying on the table too long”, poking fun at the fact that she is a young mum of three, which drew criticism from the audience.
After the programme aired, Sarah Beth updated her TikTok. ‘It was embarrassing for that exchange to be aired,’ she said of Katie’s comments, ‘I was hurt. I think it’s very cool for women to support and lift up other women. But anything that demeans mums is super lame. It’s hard being a mum and it’s hard being a woman,” she said, expressing her displeasure.

Sarah Beth continued, “I understand the young mums, the normal mums who comment on all the videos and posts,” and continued, “I just want to tell you that I know and appreciate how hard you guys are working and that you are worth it. Keep loving your babies,” she urged.
