The film Barbie will be released in the US on 21 July.

Margot Robbie plays Barbie and Ryan Gosling plays Ken in this live-action film featuring the world’s favourite fashion doll, Barbie, and her boyfriend, Ken.

However, since the trailer was recently released, there have been complaints from some people in Generation Z (the generation born between the late 1990s and 2010s) about Ryan’s Ken.

One young person commented on the trailer’s release, saying: ‘Ryan Gosling is too old to play Ken. Sorry, but seeing those wrinkles makes me not want to go see the film”, tweeted. He added: “I like Ryan Gosling, but why does he look so old and scruffy in that film? Is it because of his hair? Or is it because of his tan? Either way, he needs moisturising’, ‘Ryan Gosling is too ugly and too old to play Ken. Henry Cavill or Chris Evans would have been better” and other withering comments were posted. Note that Ryan is now 42 years old and Margot Robbie is 32.

Some young people on TikTok have also described Ken, who plays Ryan, as ‘Grandpa Ken’. On the other hand, some online have come to Ryan’s defence.

‘Generation Z says Ryan Gosling is “too old”, but even if he were 96, I don’t think anyone else would play Ken’, ‘Ryan Gosling is “too old” and “ugly”! That’s insane!” ‘I don’t think Ryan Gosling is ugly. I’m even angry.

The film, directed by Greta Gerwig, tells the story of Barbie and Ken, who live in a colourful and happy world, but get lost in the ‘real world’ where humans live. It is a fantasy with plenty of comedic elements.
